Easy maneuverability makes the New Mud Dog 650 ideal
for municipal hydro excavating applications

While our larger 10 yard and 16 yard Mud Dog® hydro excavators are usually best suited for the industrial contractor and utility markets, our new 6.5 yard Mud Dog 650 is smaller and offers better maneuverability making it appropriate for a variety of municipal applications.

Super Products’ Vice President of Sales & Marketing Jeff Steinbach explains, “We recognized the challenges of hydro excavating in suburban/urban areas where access is tight and environmental sensitivities are increasing. By developing a 6.5 yard hydro excavation offering, we provide users with the maneuverability they need, as well as a unit that makes it easier to navigate in sensitive areas and has greater flexibility for emergency response situations like trench collapses.”

The Mud Dog 650 is ideal for use by municipalities, utilities/utility districts, state/county DOTs, landscaping contractors, utility contractors, emergency response departments (fire, hazmat), and hydro-excavation contractors with a significant suburban/ urban customer base.

With its ease of maneuverability, the Mud Dog 650 is an efficient solution for utility locates/potholing/ daylighting, excavating for sign and pole placement, and smaller scale trenching such as short run water laterals. It also meets the challenges of clearing around utility controls such as valve boxes and power transformers, digging holes for trees and plantings, cleaning up spoils from directional boring or well drilling, non-mechanical excavation for rescue of trench and tunnel collapse victims.

The Mud Dog 650 simplifies hydro excavating in tight spaces such as in alleys or between buildings, cleaning catch basins, and high pressure washing where the capture of water is necessary to control run-off or contamination.

Specifically designed to work in confined urban settings, rough compact terrains and remote, hard-to-reach locations, the Mud Dog 650 features a 6.5 cubic yard debris dump body and 500 gallon capacity fresh water tank. It performs at water pressures of up to 10GPM at 2500PSI and has an eight-inch positive displacement vacuum system that offers air flow of 3600 cfm/18”Hg.

The unit’s eight-foot telescoping boom offers 270-degree rotation and a reach from 15 to 23 feet. And its single engine system and simple control panel setup makes the Mud Dog 650 easy to use.

Steinbach adds, “Its simplicity keeps training costs/time down and reduces preventative maintenance expenses. Just as UPS uses cargo vans rather than semis to make home deliveries, we have tailored the Mud Dog 650 hydro excavator to meet the task, which keeps operational costs down without sacrificing, and in some cases increasing, productivity and customer satisfaction.”
